Tom Welling was born on April 24, 1977 in New York city.
He went to Okemos High School at Okemos, Michigan where he graduated at 1995. An athlete during high school, Tom developed a love of basketball – which he still plays whenever he can. He also played some baseball, and was a soccer star playing as a goalkeeper on the high school team during his senior year. While he enjoyed History and some other subjects, Tom did no better than "fair" in high school, and on graduation, he knew that pursuing a college education was not for him. Instead he got a job as a construction worker at a warehouse. He continued to live at home with his parents, and spent his free time hanging out with friends.
Born and raised in New York, Tom is relatively new to the world of acting. He performed in a few high school theater productions but he was discovered at the age of 21 by an Ambercrombie
and Fitch photo scout who suggested he try modeling. After a few years of modeling for the Louisa Modeling agency and traveling around the world, Tom decided that acting was more his thing and gave him
greater personal satisfaction. He performed in a few high school theater productions before recently moving to Los Angeles to pursue a professional career.
With his good looks and attitude, Tom definitely has the potential of becoming the next big teen star.
His first big break was landing six episodes in Judging Amy last season playing
"Rob the karate instructor" opposite Amy Brenneman in a romantic role that drew raves.
He landed the role of Kent after a nationwide search for a fresh face to play the part of young Clark Kent.
Welling was nominated for best male actor on a TV show (Smallville) at the 2001 Saturn
Awards and was awarded 'Male Breakout Star' at the 2002 Teen Choice Awards.
Welling currently lives in Los Angeles. When not working, he enjoys reading, playing basketball with friends and
running. Tom married his girlfriend Jamie in July 2002 after three years together. They had previously met during Tom's modeling days.
