Kevin Zegers was born in St. Marys, Ontario to quarry worker James Zegers and hair dresser Mary Ellen. He grew up in Woodstock, Ontario, graduating from an all-boys French
immersion separate school in 2002.
Zegers began his acting career at the age of 6. He has been in over 30 commercials and works off-and-on as a model.
His first film role was at the
age of 7, a small role in "Life With Mikey" (1993). After that he appeared in a number of supporting roles, including a guest appearance on the TV series, The X-Files, playing a young stigmatic
child. He garnered the starring role in the comdey "Air Bud" (1997), about a basketball-playing dog. In the years following, Zegers appeared in three of the film's sequels, as well as a similar
genre film, MVP: Most Valuable Primate, which featured a hockey-playing monkey.
From 1997 to 2004, Zegers had major roles in many low-budget Canadian films, and several horror films including
"Komodo" (1999). He also appeared in the short-lived American television series, Titans with Yasmine Bleeth in 2000 and also in the 1999 movie "It Came From the Sky".
After
appearing in the remake of Dawn of the Dead, he had a big break with his role in the critically acclaimed independent film, "Transamerica" (2005), co-starring Felicity Huffman as a
male-to-female transsexual. Zegers' performance as Huffman's street hustler son was praised by several critics. The real life Zegers is very athletic and is often cast as an athlete.
He enjoys basketball, ice hockey, and golf and in school, played on the basketball, football and lacrosse teams. In addition he lifted weights as a teen and in February 2002, he played on the Hollywood
Knights celebrity basketball team in California. He is currently working on "It's a Boy Girl Thing" and "Zoom" due for release in 2006 as well as "The Lighthouse" with a
2007 release date.
